Derby County vs West Bromwich Albion Saturday 24/08/19 12:30pm

A penalty scored by either side guaranteed a 1-1 draw between Derby and West Brom in a tight game at Pride Park. Derby started brightly and in the 6th minute they had a penalty when Martyn Waghorn was bought down in the box who got up and converting the spot kick. Waghorn had the chance to make it 2-0 after a controversial penalty was given for handball but Kelle Roos provided a great stop to keep it out. West Brom left it late but eventually equalised in the 84th minute through a Kenneth Zohore penalty after a foul in the box. The game finished with a red card as West Brom manager Slavan Bilic was given a second yellow card for arguing with the officials.

Barnsley vs Luton Town Saturday 24/08/19 3pm

A very poor Barnsley performance allowed fellow newly promoted side Luton an easy 3-1 victory over the Tykes. It took Luton just 2 minutes to take the lead after the ball fell to Jacob Butterfield on the edge of the box who rifled it into the bottom corner. It was 2-0 in the 4th minute after Barnsley failed to clear a corner leading to James Collins scrambling the ball home on the line. Luton scored again in the 31st minute when Barnsley couldn’t clear a free kick allowing Harry Cornick to smash home. Barnsley did score in the 72nd minute when Mallik Wilks guided the ball into the net from close range but the goal was nothing more than a consolation after a very poor performance.

Blackburn Rovers vs Cardiff City Saturday 24/08/19 3pm

A superb Christian Walton goalkeeping performance earned Blackburn a point in a 0-0 draw to Cardiff. Walton made a number of good saves keeping Cardiff at bay as they created the best chances to win the match.

Charlton Athletic vs Brentford Saturday 24/08/19 3pm

A resilient defensive performance helped Charlton hang on to an impressive 1-0 victory over Brentford. Charlton’s goal came in the 41st minute when Jonny Williams released Conor Gallagher through on goal who finished emphatically. Brentford pushed hard for an equaliser but Charlton’s defence put their bodies on the line to ensure victory.

Fulham vs Nottingham Forest Saturday 24/08/19 3pm

Nottingham Forest beat a dominant Fulham 2-1 with a superb counter attacking display. Forest took the lead in the 4th minute when Lewis Grabban was left unmarked for a tap in at the back post. Forest doubled their lead after some sloppy passing round the back allowed Grabban to smash the ball in off the post in the 61st minute. Fulham got a goal back in the 83rd minute when Aleksandar Mitrovic turned in a cross but Fulham couldn’t find an equaliser.

Huddersfield Town vs Reading Saturday 24/08/19 3pm

Reading left it late to beat a resilient Huddersfield side 2-0. Fan favourite Ovie Ejaria opened the scoring in the 71st minute after beating a few players and drilling it low into the bottom corner. Defender Michael Morrison extended Reading’s lead in the 84th minute with a header from a corner which went in off the post.

Hull City vs Bristol City Saturday 24/08/19 3pm

Bristol City showed their clinical side in an exciting 3-1 victory over Hull. The first piece of action came in the 41st minute when Bristol were awarded a penalty for a foul inside the box. Benik Afobe stepped up and scored to give them the lead. Hull responded well and in the 44th minute Jarrod Bowen equalised after being played through on goal. Hull defender Reece Burke got himself on the scoresheet in the 78th minute but it was for Bristol turning a cross into his own net. Bristol secured all three points in the 80th minute when Afobe side footed a dangerous cross into the net for his second of the game.

Middlesbrough vs Millwall Saturday 24/08/19 3pm

Millwall boss Neil Harris was given a straight red card in a close 1-1 draw against Middlesbrough. Harris was given his marching orders towards the end of the first half following an altercation with a Middlesbrough coach. Harris may have been more angered when he saw Middlesbrough easily cut open his team and take the lead in the 70th minute through Paddy McNair. Millwall did equalise however when Tom Bradshaw scrambled home a corner in the 76th minute.

Preston North End vs Sheffield Wednesday Saturday 24/08/19 3pm

In form Preston scored two penalties to beat a reckless Sheffield side in a 2-1. The first penalty was won in the 32nd minute when Sean Maguire was bundled over in the box which Daniel Johnson scored despite Keiren Westwood getting a hand on it. The second penalty was won in the 65th minute when again Maguire was bought down but this time after a reckless challenge. Johnson again scored giving Preston a two goal lead. Steven Fletcher scored a header in the 78th minute to give Sheffield hope but they couldn’t find an equaliser.

Queens Park Rangers vs Wigan Athletic Saturday 24/08/19 3pm

An excellent QPR second half performance saw off Wigan in a convincing 3-1 win over the Latics. Wigan took a surprise lead when in the 2nd minute Cedric Kipre tapped home a corner at the back post. QPR responded just after half time with Nahki Wells putting the ball in the bottom corner from close range in the 48th minute. A brilliant Eberechi Eze free kick gave QPR the lead in the 61st minute placing the ball in the bottom right corner. All three points were secured in the 81st minute by Jordan Hugill who’s first time finish went in off the post.

Stoke City vs Leeds United Saturday 24/08/19 3pm

Leeds dispatched of Stoke in an incredible 3-0 victory piling more pressure on Nathan Jones. Stuart Dallas broke the deadlock in the 42nd minute finishing off a beautiful one touch move. Leeds scored again in the 50th minute through Ezgjan Alioski who tapped the ball into an open goal following a low cross. Patrick Bamford scored the final goal of the game in the 66th minute firing past Adam Federici after making a save.

Swansea City vs Birmingham City Sunday 25/08/19 12pm

Three goals in twelve minute gave Swansea a 3-0 win over Birmingham. Swansea took the lead thanks to fullback Kyle Naughton who fired his shot low into the corner in the 63rd minute. Former Man City player Bersant Celina doubled Swansea’s lead in the 68th minute smashing the ball in at the near post. Swansea won a penalty in the 75th minute following a foul in the box which Jorja Baston scored to ensure his teams victory.

Championship Player of the Week: Eberechi Eze

Young star Eberechi Eze is my player of the week for his flashy performance for QPR in their 3-1 win over Wigan. Eze scored a brilliant free kick and provided a sumptuous outside of the foot assist for Jordan Hugill to help his side get three points.
