Huddersfield Town have announced that they have terminated the contract of manager Jan Siewert following a 2-1 defeat to Fulham. The news comes after Siewert won just one game in seven months in charge of the Terriers.
Huddersfield appointed Siewert on the 21st of January 2019 following the departure of miracle worker David Wagner. Siewert, like Wagner, joined Huddersfield following a managerial spell at Dortmund’s Second Team. Siewert had the very hard task of keeping Huddersfield in the Premier League with the club bottom of the table and ten points adrift from safety.
Siewert’s appointment did not lift Huddersfield to safety and they were relegated twenty-one points from staying up. Siewert managed a total of fifteen Premier League matches and collected only five points conceding thirty-six goals and scoring just nine.
Despite his poor record, Huddersfield stayed faithful in their manager and it appeared that they would give him time in the Championship to build the team he wanted. This wasn’t to be, and after a draw and two losses in the Championship and a loss to League 1 outfit Lincoln in the Carabao Cup, Siewert was dismissed.
Huddersfield have since given little indication over Siewart’s replacement, with caretaker manager Mark Hudson taking temporary charge of the club.
