To kick off the 2019-20 Premier League season, last season’s champions of Europe came up against the champions of the Championship.

The result went as expected, with Liverpool claiming a 4-1 victory over new boys Norwich. However, Liverpool weren’t as dominant as the scoreline suggests, with Norwich creating some good chances and forcing some good saves from Alisson and Adrian, the latter coming on for the injured Brazilian.

When Divock Origi drilled a ball into the box, Norwich skipper Grant Hanley opened the floodgates, slicing it past Tim Krul in the Norwich net.

Egyptian star and two time Premier League golden boot winner Mo Salah would slide a brilliant finish into the bottom corner after a classy piece of linkup play with Brazilian strike partner Robert Firmino, before Virgil Van Dijk headed one home in typical fashion from a corner to make the score 3-0 just thirty minutes into the first half of play.

Origi would make it four just before the break, finishing off a brilliant ball by the young full back Trent Alexander-Arnold.

After the half, Norwich finally managed to put a chance away, with Finnish talisman Teemu Pukki slotting one home across the face of goal – merely a consolation goal, but one that will give Norwich fans a glimmer of hope.

4-1 the final score, in a game where neither defence showered themselves in glory, with Liverpool also losing star keeper Alisson through injury putting a dampener on proceedings.
